AXA XL promotes Andrew Maynard to Head of Life, Accident & Health - UK & Lloyd’s

AXA XL today announced it has promoted Andrew Maynard to Head of Life, Accident & Health (A&H) – UK & Lloyd’s, effective immediately. 

In his new role, Mr. Maynard will be responsible for leading all underwriting activities for the UK & Lloyd’s A&H business and implementing an underwriting strategy focused on delivering profitable growth for the region. Mr. Maynard will also be responsible for embedding the highest underwriting standards, practices and procedures within the line, and will work with clients and brokers to drive product and service development.

Commenting on the appointment, Andrew Underwood, Chief Underwriting Officer - Specialty, UK and Lloyd’s said: “Advances in technology and the introduction of new ways of working – such as hybrid working or the gig economy – are bringing a new wave of opportunities and challenges for employers and their employees. 

“We need to ensure our understanding is at the forefront of developments around these, so that we can help give our clients the clearest possible picture of the changing risk environment and support them in managing their evolving risks. 

“Key to this is ensuring we have the right talent and expertise within our teams: I’m certain that Andrew’s strong leadership and extensive industry experience – in insurance and reinsurance within both UK and International markets – position him ideally to lead our A&H business in the UK. Mr. Maynard has more than 40 years of industry experience, having specialised in A&H since the beginning of his career. 

Mr. Maynard entered the industry in 1980 undertaking his professional training at Sun Alliance. Most recently, he held the position of Global Product Lead, Wholesale Life, A&H at AXA XL, after returning from assignment in Singapore and having been promoted within the business several times since joining AXA XL (then Catlin) in 2007. Prior to this, he held senior positions at Pacific Life Reinsurance (previously Scottish Re Life Reinsurance UK).
